Research project

Charles Manu Boateng completed his BSc. Natural Resources Management (Fisheries major) in 2018. He served as a teaching assistant during his national service at Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management, KNUST. After his national services in 2019 he enrolled as a Masters student in the Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management, KNUST, with funding from the IPAG project. His research is focused on improving the physical characteristics and floatability of diets prepared from plant-protein ingredients for tilapia culture. He is investigating the effect different particle sizes of popcorn (0.1mm, 0.2mm &0.3mm) included at five levels (0, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% & 10%) on the general physical characteristics and floatability of the diets.

This study is aimed at improving the floatability of farm-made feeds at least cost. The initial trial is evaluating the characteristics of 15 diets formulated from (3 particles sizes at 5 inclusion levels). The best three diets with excellent floatability will be tested for their effect on apparent digestibility, growth performance, feed utilization and water quality.
